Abstract: Since decades operational proceedings in the road building industry have remained the same, leaning onto personal experience and intuition of workers to get a job done. Prior research conducted on the various steps involved in asphalt paving processes identified uncertainty about the arrival of resupply and a lack of synchronisation between different entities to be the major source for variability in asphalt layer quality. In order to obtain a homogeneous asphalt layer, it is desired to keep paving continuously and compacting it subsequently within a certain time frame, dependent on asphalt temperature, paving speed and environmental influences. Furthermore, logistics planners are encouraged to apply fleet-demand calculations aiding them to find an appropriate number of trucks for delivering fresh asphalt to the construction sites. This report focuses on development of the framework for a mobile Android OS application designed to help the entities involved to improve their communication and synchronisation of tasks by providing a platform that collects information critical to the process and displays relevant information to the respective entities.
